Crewe defender Carl Martin feeling low after red card

Crewe Alexandra defender Carl Martin has admitted that his red card against Grimsby on Tuesday was one of the lowest moments of his career.

The full-back, 23, was sent off after 86 minutes, with the Alex leading 3-2.

Manager Dario Gradi described his actions as "stupid", despite Crewe wrapping up a 4-2 win in injury time.

"It's the first red card of my life and I didn't know it would feel like this, but you just have to get on with it," Martin told BBC Radio Stoke.

"I got closed down quickly by two players, there was nothing on, so I side-stepped and got a heavy second touch.

"It was an opportunity for me to show Dario what I've got and repay him for showing faith in me. I think I did well and I was enjoying it."

Gradi was critical of Martin immediately after the game, saying: "If he does do that again, that will be his career here over."

Former Wealdstone defender Martin will be suspended for the trip to Torquay on Saturday.
