Crewe boss Dario Gradi angered by Carl Martin red card

Dario Gradi says that Carl Martin's future at Crewe is in doubt after his red card in the 4-2 win over Grimsby.

Defender Martin was sent off in the closing stages, with Crewe leading 3-2 and boss Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke: "I don't know what he did to get sent off.

"I didn't watch, I was raging that he chose to run with the ball when I told him not to.

"Until I can trust him to do as he's told, he won't figure again. Whatever ban he gets will be music to my ears."

Gradi continued: "There's stupid, and then there's what he did, which was ultra-stupid.

"He's an intelligent guy, but if he does do that again, that will be his career here over.

"He'll get another chance because he'd done well, apart from the two occasions he'd run with the ball and got into trouble. It's annoying, because it could have cost us the game."

Martin joined Crewe from non-league Wealdstone in October and was making his fourth substitute appearance for the Alex.

Matt Tootle picked up a dead leg against Grimsby and could miss the trip to Torquay on Saturday, meaning transfer-listed Billy Jones may be the only left-back available for selection.

The former Crewe skipper has not played for the first-team since 17 October and has been told he is free to leave the club at the end of the campaign.
