Crewe goalkeeper Steve Phillips wants coaching career
Goalkeeper Steve Phillips has made 16 appearances for Crewe Alexandra
Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper Steve Phillips is hoping to become a coach when his playing career finishes.
The 31-year-old has been taking weekly coaching sessions since joining the Alex for the remainder of the season.
Phillips told BBC Radio Stoke: "I coach the goalkeepers at the community centre on a Monday night and things are going really well down there.
"I'm 32 in May, and I'll keep playing as long as I can, but you do need something to fall back on."
The former Bristol Rovers shot-stopper continued: "Hopefully with my experience, come that day, it will be enough to help some other young kids come through.
"It might not be that I coach here at all, it's their philosophy whether they have a goalkeeping coach or not, but that's years and years down the line hopefully."
Phillips has played over 500 games in his career and believes his experience could be crucial to the development of the League Two club's younger talent.
"I try to pass on a bit of information, it's up to them whether they listen or not," said Phillips. "Some do and some don't, but if they do listen, they're going to improve."
