Gardner could make his Crewe debut against Northampton on Saturday

Crewe Alexandra have completed the signing of striker Danny Gardner from non-league side Flixton on a contract until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old spent almost a month on trial with the League Two club and has impressed Alex manager Dario Gradi sufficiently to earn a deal.

Crewe are now awaiting international clearance for the transfer to go ahead.

Gardner was released by Celtic at the end of last season and was spotted by chief scout Neil Baker.

Gradi has been forced to bring in players from the lower leagues and outside the Football League due to the state of the finances at the League Two club.

Gardner is likely to be part of the Crewe squad to face Northampton at the Alexandra Stadium on Saturday.
