Crewe Alexandra give trial to Flixton's Dan Gardener
Gradi says Crewe's finances will prevent him making any new signings
Crewe Alexandra have given a trial to striker Dan Gardner, who plays for Vodkat Premier League side Flixton.
Gardner, who recently had a trial with Oldham Athletic, will spend a month training with the League Two club.
"It's a contact that [chief scout] Neil Baker has made and he told me that this lad was coming in," Crewe manager Dario Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke.
"The Flixton manager has come in with him and he seems a good guy. He's an athletic boy; we'll see how he does."
Gardner will be given his first chance to impress the Alex coaching staff in a practice game against Aston Villa on Wednesday.
"He'll be playing up front, and if he scores a hat-trick I might consider signing him," said Gradi.
The Crewe boss has previously stated that he will find it difficult to bring new players into the club during the January transfer window because of the financial situation at the Alexandra Stadium.
