Simon Walton has described his time with Plymouth Argyle as "a nightmare" and wants to resurrect his career during a loan spell with Crewe.

The 21-year-old midfielder made just 12 starts for Argyle last season and is now with his ninth professional club.

"I've been treated like a piece of meat, I won't go into details but I haven't been treated very well," the former Leeds man told BBC Radio Stoke.

"I want to start enjoying my football, which hasn't been the case."

Walton continued: "I've had a nightmare 18 months since I broke my leg and it's been horrible for me.

"I was training with the reserves and the kids, and then Plymouth took a 28-man squad for a tour to Scotland and I didn't even make that.

"During the summer I was worried where I might end up so I've been lucky to get this chance at Crewe and I'm looking to resurrect my career."

Walton made his debut as a substitute on Tuesday, playing for an hour in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Stockport.

He is expected to make his League Two debut against Macclesfield on Saturday, as Mat Mitchel-King has been ruled out with a back strain.
