Brayford expecting tough summer

John Brayford says the Crewe squad will be working hard during the close season to make sure they are in peak condition for the start of the League Two season.

"We've been given a programme to take forward into pre-season," the former Burton defender told BBC Radio Stoke.

"Hopefully we can come back fitter and stronger on 29 June and give League Two a good go next season."

Relegated Crewe will be in the bottom tier of the league structure for the first time since 1994.

Having spent all of his career in non-league with Burton, Brayford will be participating in his first pre-season with a Football League club.

He added: "It will be tough but it's something that I'm looking forward to. Hopefully I can take it in my stride, do well in the summer and get back in good shape."

Despite Crewe's relegation, Brayford enjoyed a good first season with the Alex, winning the player of the year prize at the club's annual ceremony.
