Ruddy's loan spell from Everton ends after Crewe's trip to Stockport

Crewe on-loan keeper John Ruddy says that he could return on another loan deal next season, but only if they avoid relegation.

Ruddy plays the final game of his spell from Everton against Stockport at Edgeley Park on Friday.

"If they went down to League Two it would be hard for me to go back. I need to progress my career," Ruddy told BBC Radio Stoke.

"If they're still in League One, I would not hesitate in coming back."

Ruddy has played 18 games for Crewe since arriving at the club in January.

But the Football League's 93-day rule means that his loan spell will end before their last game of the season, at home to the League One champions Leicester City.

Ruddy added: "I won't be playing but I'll be at the game against Leicester to encourage the lads, and hopefully they can get the result we need."

In Ruddy's absence, his parent club Everton have reached the final of the FA Cup after a penalty shoot-out win against Manchester United.

Tim Howard saved penalties from Rio Ferdinand and Dimitar Berbatov, and Ruddy has praised his team-mate for his heroics at Wembley.

"I'm very pleased for everyone, but especially Tim," said Ruddy. "I spoke to him after the game and he was buzzing.

"I'm delighted for them. It will be a great day out and I think Everton have got a chance."
