Crewe manager Gudjon Thordarson has said his team were suffering from "hurting souls" before his arrival at the struggling League One club.
Thordarson told BBC Radio Stoke: "They were badly hurt in the winter, both in soul and in body, and I've managed to heal the soul a bit.
"I think they can improve and do even better than they are doing."
Crewe have won five of their eight league matches since Thordarson took over on 24 December.

When the 53-year-old took the job the Alex were well adrift at the bottom of the League One table, but they are now only two points from safety.
The former Stoke City and Iceland boss says the reason is that he has instilled a winning mentality in his team.
They have won their last three matches, culminating in the 2-0 victory over Yeovil on Tuesday.
Thordarson added: "Winning in sport is more important than anything.
"It gives you belief and that extra energy that you need to dig in when things are tough, and my players are doing that for sure."
