Crewe's Lawrence on national duty

Crewe defender Dennis Lawrence said he will miss his club, but not the English weather, while on international duty for Trinidad and Tobago.

The 34-year-old travels to the Caribbean for a World Cup qualifier against El Salvador on Wednesday.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "Any break is always welcome and to get to the sun means no problems with snow!"

Lawrence will miss Crewe's home match with Bristol Rovers on Tuesday because of his international commitments.

He added: "I didn't realise that the Bristol Rovers game had been moved to the Tuesday, but hopefully the boys will look after Bristol Rovers and I can concentrate on El Salvador."

Lawrence was part of the Trinidad and Tobago squad that reached the World Cup finals in Germany in 2006, and he hopes to play on the biggest stage in world football again.

"I just love playing football, whether it be for Trinidad or for Crewe. If the opportunity arises, I would love to have that challenge again."
