Crewe manager Gudjon Thordarson was pleased with the impact of substitutes Joel Grant and Calvin Zola in the 2-1 win against Tranmere on Saturday.
Grant scored the winner with two minutes remaining to lift Crewe off the bottom of the League One table.
Thordarson told BBC Radio Stoke: "Both played their part, they were effective and you can't ask for more than that.
"It's difficult to come off the bench and do a job like that, but both worked ever so hard for us."
Crewe's last-gasp win over Tranmere followed on from a stoppage-time victory in their previous home game against Scunthorpe.
And Thordarson says it is important that his players do not give up until the final whistle.

He added: "90 minutes is a long time in football. We made a couple of changes that worked for us, with some fresh legs and different qualities.
"I have to give my players credit for their effort and commitment, they worked hard and deserved the win."
Crewe have moved above Hereford and Cheltenham in the table and occupy 22nd position, six points from safety.
Yeovil are the next visitors to the Alexandra Stadium on Tuesday.
