Crewe striker Tom Pope will be trying to relegate the team he supports when he lines up against Port Vale on Tuesday evening. After initially being released, Pope is in his second spell with the Alex and has also had two unsuccessful trials at Vale Park.
"(Then Vale manager) Martin Foyle told me I wasn't good enough," the 22-year-old told BBC Radio Stoke.
"Hopefully I can now prove that he was wrong and I am good enough."
Just two years ago Pope was playing non league football for Biddulph Victoria and working as a window fitter.
His goal scoring form convinced Crewe assistant manager Neil Baker to give him another chance with the Railwaymen, it was also at this time that the Valiants showed interest in signing the man from Sneyd Green for the second time.
"After I was released by Crewe I spent around two years with Vale and that obviously didn't work out. I had my second trial with Vale just before I re-signed with Crewe."
Crewe are just one point above the League One relegation zone while Vale are firmly rooted to the bottom, three points behind Luton, who also have a game in hand.
