Crawley's transfer interest unsettled me, says Brodie

Crawley Town's new signing Richard Brodie concedes that his form dipped after he became unsettled by speculation over his future.

The 23-year-old striker joined the Reds just three minutes before the transfer window closed on Tuesday.

He told BBC Sussex: "I'd been aware of it for about a month to six weeks. Has it unsettled me? Yes it has.

"My performances haven't been great. It was always in the back of my mind and I'm glad it eventually got it sorted."

He added: "What they're trying to plan here and the aims this club have got is to be a Football League club. They've got as good a chance as anybody."

Brodie does not expect to go straight into the Crawley side, despite being a proven goalscorer in Blue Square Bet Premier.

"I can't just come here and expect to go walk into the team," he continued.

"They've paid money for me but I've only scored one this year.

"I need to get my head down and work hard to get into the side.

"It was a difficult decision to leave York but the decision was right for me and the club.

"It's a new start for me, a new challenge, and I'm absolutely chomping at the bit."
