Marlon King eventually signed for Coventry in September

Coventry City striker Marlon King has broken his silence to thank manager Aidy Boothroyd for helping him.

Boothroyd, who managed King at Watford, offered the 30-year-old a route back into football following the striker's release from prison earlier this year.

King told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "He's played a big part in my life and I owe a lot to him and the club.

"I've played for him before and he was a massive influence on my life and he's continued when we weren't together."

The marksman scored 36 times in the league under Boothroyd at Watford, but has yet to find the back of the net in nine appearances for the Sky Blues.

King had a big hand in both goals in the weekend win over Scunthorpe and believes the City boss is having a positive influence on all the squad.

He added: "I think the boys have got a lot of time and respect because he gives people chances.

"He's not just a football manager. He helps out people when they need that arm around them and he's good at his job."
