Hughes in Coventry contract talks

Stephen Hughes is approaching 150 appearances for Coventry

Coventry City captain Stephen Hughes is in talks over a new contract but insists his priority is to concentrate on the club's relegation battle.

Hughes is one of three senior players along with Marcus Hall and goalkeeper Andy Marshall being offered new deals.

The 31-year-old midfielder told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "Hopefully it can be resolved as soon as possible."

But with the Sky Blues just outside the Championship drop zone Hughes has promised not to be distracted.

"I've got to focus on my football," said Hughes. "I won't let it distract me at all. The most important thing is the survival for the football club, not my individual contract."

Hughes is in his fourth season at Coventry since being signed by Peter Reid.

"I enjoy everything here and I'm enjoying my football again but the results are the important thing and it's vitally important to get the points on the board."
