Odejayi had not scored in his last 21 outings before Saturday

Colchester United striker Kayode Odejayi says he is frustrated after a spell out of the starting line-up.

The 28-year-old came off the bench to score both goals in United's 2-1 win over Notts County on Saturday.

The Nigerian, whose last goal had been in February, has made just two starts this season.

"It's been very frustrating, especially after last season where I came in and was involved in a lot of the games and got my goals," he told BBC Essex.

Odejayi joined the U's in January following a loan spell from Barnsley in late 2009 and was on target 10 times after making 31 appearances in the last campaign.

"To come back and find myself out of the team is especially difficult but it's difficult for everyone," he said.

"It's part and parcel of the game, it's an occupational hazard really.

"When given the chance you have to give the manager something to think about and hopefully I've done that.

"If selected next week I'll hope to carry on and if I find myself on the bench again I'll be ready and waiting."

Boss John Ward took the gamble of bringing the former Cheltenham frontman on after only 37 minutes against the Magpies.

"Kay led the front line extremely well and he got a great reward as well with his goals," Ward said.

"He's been knocking on my door saying he wants to play. He hasn't been a problem for me and his attitude has been spot on.

"I'm really pleased for him because he's got a great reward and I know I've got a decision to make for next Saturday, but it's a nice one to have."

Saturday's win over Notts County was Ward's side's first win in five league games and lifted them to sixth in League One.
