Izzet has made over 300 starts for Colchester

Colchester United midfielder Kem Izzet has praised his side's determination following their draw with Dagenham.

The U's were not at their best for much of the League One encounter but still managed a 2-2 draw.

Izzet, 29, told BBC Essex: "As much as we're not happy with the way we played it just goes to show the character we've got in the squad.

"We didn't play well but still managed to get a result. I thought we were unlucky not to nick it at the end."

John Ward's men were forced to drop some of their passing football in order grind out a result against the Daggers, something Izzet is not about to apologise for.

"I didn't want to come out here and start making excuses but sometimes you've got to give credit to the other team," he said.

"They were very good on the night and we weren't, but our work rate and energy were there and that got us a point."

The result maintains Colchester's unbeaten start to the season, although they find themselves sixth in the table after a flurry of stalemates.

"We've got six draws and three wins, it's not ideal, we'd rather a few more wins under our belt," Izzet added.

"But obviously it's a nice record to have, we'll go to MK Dons full of confidence on Saturday and see what we can get there."
