Colchester United boss John Ward patient on striker
Ward has taken over from Aidy Boothroyd as Colchester boss
Colchester United manager John Ward will not be pressured into finding a quick replacement for Clive Platt.
The striker, 32, joined Coventry on Wednesday and York's Richard Brodie has been linked with the U's.
"There's no immediate rush to get someone in but obviously we have a list of targets and I'll be chatting to my scouting unit," Ward told BBC Essex.
"I've never spoken about players under contract at other clubs and I won't start now," he added.
Colchester have made four new signings over the summer with Brian Wilson, Andy Bond, Lloyd James and Ben Coker joining the League One club.
"I'm pleased with what we've done and two of the guys have come from non-league which proves there is quality at the lower level if you go looking," said Ward.
Platt joined Coventry less than 24 hours after leading the line for Colchester in a friendly against Cambridge United.
"He'll take a bit of replacing, but it's my job to try and do that," Ward added.
