Platt's goals against Exeter moved the U's into third in League One
Colchester United striker Clive Platt paid tribute to the support of his manager Aidy Boothroyd after scoring his first league goals since August.
Platt's brace against Exeter on Saturday were his first since the U's 7-1 opening day defeat of Norwich City.
"As a striker you always want to get goals," the 32-year-old told BBC Essex.
"But, when you've got a manager who is backing you and saying he doesn't care if you score as long as the team keep winning, it makes it a bit easier."
Platt added: "The gaffer (assistant manager) John Ward and the whole coaching staff couldn't have done enough for me and have kept me in the team.
"My job is not all about scoring goals and they have emphasised all the other stuff I have done for the team and been right on my side."
