Colchester United caretaker boss Joe Dunne says he is not one of 12 people being interviewed for the vacant manager's job.
The U's board have whittled down the candidates this week and hope to have made an appointment by September 5th.
Dunne told BBC Essex: "The applicants have handed in their CV's, one of them is not mine."
"My job was just to take care of things, I'm pretty sure the candidates have a very high standard."
Dunne will take charge of the U's for this Saturday's match against Leeds United.
Colchester then visit Gillingham in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy the following Tuesday and hope to have appointed a new manager for the trip to Southampton on 5th September.
