Blackpool's Fox off to Colchester

Colchester United have set up their first summer signing by agreeing a deal for Blackpool midfielder David Fox.

The Stoke-born former Manchester United trainee will sign a three-year contract with the Essex club when he officially becomes a U's player on 1 July.

Fox, 25, was signed by Simon Grayson in January 2006 for Blackpool after over two years on the Old Trafford books.

Fox's contract is up at Bloomfield Road on 30 June and he has now opted to drop down a division on a free transfer.

But he insists that he is signing for U's boss Paul Lambert with the intention of making a rapid return to the Championship next May.

"As a man, he was very sincere and precise in his thoughts," Fox told the U's website. "And his aim was very clear.

"He wasn't saying we could do this or we could do that - he said he wants to get promoted this season and that appealed to me straight away.

"I don't want to be out of the Championship for too long and this is a great opportunity to get back. Everything here is set up for that, so I am really looking forward to being a part of it."

Fox made 108 appearances in his three and a half years in Lancashire, scoring seven goals.
