Gillespie has scored five goals in 19 appearances for the U's this season
Colchester United striker Steven Gillespie has said he hopes his run of injuries is now behind him.
Gillespie, 23, joined the U's last summer for a club record 400,000 but Saturday's 1-0 win at Oldham was only his eighth start for the club.
"It's been an absolute nightmare season, I can't describe it as anything else," he told BBC Essex.
"But hopefully I've put that behind me and I can end the season well and take that into next year."
Despite his enforced absences from the U's side, the former Cheltenham player has scored five times for the Essex club and has made numerous substitute appearances.
He admitted the fans have not seen the best of him yet but has vowed to improve.
"With another few games under my belt, I'll maybe start to get a goal or two and do a bit better when I do get in [to goal-scoring] positions," he said.
"I feel that I've done well to get into those positions but hopefully I will be getting better."
