Tierney initially joined the U's on a five-week loan deal

Colchester United have completed the permanent signing of defender Marc Tierney from Shrewsbury Town.

The 23-year-old left-back joins the U's for an undisclosed fee having been on loan at with the Essex club for five weeks, making six league appearances.

Colchester boss Paul Lambert told BBC Essex: "He's been brilliant. He has been absolutely terrific.

"I think he is going to have a very big future in the game if he keeps going the way he is."

Tierney made over 80 appearances for the Shrews during his two years with the club.
