Colchester midfielder Johnnie Jackson says playing Ipswich in the Carling Cup will be a good test for the squad.
The Essex side will make the short trip up the A12 to face the Championship side in the second round.
The 25-year-old told BBC Essex: "It'll be a tough test, they'll want to win so hopefully they'll put out their strongest side.
"It will be a really good cup tie and a good chance to see where we stand against good Championship opposition."
The U's booked their place in the second round with a 1-0 victory away to Gillingham, the club's first cup win under Geraint Williams.
The win came after a disappointing opening to their League One campaign, which saw them lose at Hartlepool.
But Jackson said the squad are capable of bouncing back.
"The changes in the week didn't weaken the side, which shows the competition that we've got now."
