Chesterfield defender Gregor Robertson has signed a new one-year deal with the Spireites as he battles to overcome last season's double leg break.

Robertson, 26, missed the rest of the campaign after suffering the awful injury in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy home defeat by Carlisle on 10 November.

But the Scottish full-back has signed on for a further 12 months and is hopeful of being fit for next season.

"I hope to get in some light training in time for pre-season," he said.

"I'm really looking forward to moving to the club's new stadium.

"It has been a long haul to fully recover," he told Chesterfield's club website.

"This is the worst injury of my career and I appreciate the support shown by the club."

Edinburgh-born Robertson broke both the tibia and fibula in his left leg after a freakish first-half tangle of limbs with Carlisle's on-loan Chelsea midfielder Tom Taiwo.

Robertson, who started his career with Nottingham Forest, joined Chesterfield from Rotherham United in July 2007.
