Chesterfield have signed a two-year deal for former Oldham midfielder Danny Whittaker following his release from the club.
The 29-year-old will reunite with Spireites boss John Sheridan who he worked with at Boundary Park.
He told the club website: "I'm delighted to be joining up with John again and I'm excited about our prospects for next season."
The former Port Vale player made 80 league appearances for the Latics.
He started his career as a trainee at Manchester United before moving to his hometown club Macclesfield, where he scored 32 goals in 201 games.
