Talbot played 17 times on loan for Chesterfield last season

Chesterfield have completed the signing of striker Drew Talbot on a two-year contract.

The 23-year-old, who began his career with Sheffield Wednesday, was released by Luton Town at the end of the season.

Talbot spent the second half of last season on loan at Saltergate, scoring twice in 17 appearances.

The Scot becomes Chesterfield's third summer signing, following the return of Ian Breckin from Nottingham Forest and Mark Allott from Tranmere.

Luton manager Mick Harford has said that Talbot's move to Chesterfield could allow him to bring new players to Kenilworth Road.

He told BBC Three Counties Radio: "We will be bringing one or two players in. It might turn out to be a good bit of business for us."

Talbot, who had a year left to run on his contract with the Hatters, joined Luton for £250,000 from Sheffield Wednesday in January 2007.

Harford added: "He has made it clear to us that he wants to go back up north. We wish him well."

Meanwhile, full-back Lewis Emanuel may also be moving away from Kenilworth Road after being offered a contract by an unnamed club.

However, Harford remained positive about his prospects of keeping the 25-year-old.

"He was offered a very good contract by Grimsby but I spoke to Lewis before the Man United game and we will sit down over the next 48 hours and hopefully thrash a deal out," said the Luton boss.

Harford also praised the performance of on-loan striker Callum Reynolds in the 2-1 friendly defeat by a Manchester United XI.

"I'm delighted with his performance," said Harford. "Callum came in and looked very calm and assured, he may be one for the future."
