Chesterfield have agreed a two-year contract with former Sheffield United midfielder Lloyd Kerry and expect to complete the deal later this week.
The Chesterfield-born player, 20, was on loan at Saltergate last season.
Spireites manager Lee Richardson told BBC Radio Sheffield: "He's still a young pup and there's lots of raw materials that can be worked on."
Meanwhile Chesterfield defender Phil Picken, 22, has agreed a new two-year deal which runs until June 2010.
Kerry, who has joined on a full-time contract, made 13 appearances and scored two goals for Chesterfield last season.
He was released by the Blades at the end of last season.
