Chesterfield have moved a step closer to building a new stadium after a formal planning application was submitted to the Borough Council.
The proposals detail the regeneration of a former glass manufacturing factory site at Whittington Moor, Chesterfield.
If the plans are approved the Spireites could move from Saltergate after work is completed in the winter of 2009.
The plans include a supermarket and business premises which will occupy the rest of the 22-acre site.
Chesterfield chairman Barrie Hubbard said: "I am delighted that we have now reached this key stage but the real milestone will be when the plans are approved by the Borough Council."
Football has been played at Saltergate, also known as the Recreation ground, since 1871.
