Chadwick hit six goals in 21 games in four and a half years with Everton

Chester City have completed the signing of former Everton reserve striker Nick Chadwick on a one-year-deal.

Chadwick, 26, looks set for an instant debut in Chester's delayed first league game of the season on Saturday against Cambridge United at the Deva Stadium.

The Shropshire-born striker signed for Plymouth from Everton in February 2005, scoring 10 times in 83 appearances in three and a half seasons at Home Park.

He then spent a year at Hereford before joining Shrewsbury last season.

Chadwick made just nine league starts for Shrewsbury, scoring twice, and was part of the team who lost out in the League Two play-off final against Gillingham at Wembley in May.

The Shropshire-born player also had spells out on loan at Derby County and Millwall (twice) during his four and half years on the books at Goodison Park.

Chadwick is City's fifth signing of the summer, following midfielder Fabian Yantorno (who will miss the start of the season through injury), defenders Tim Ryan and Michael Lea and reserve keeper Andrew Murphy.

City had also brought in experienced Bury striker Glynn Hurst. But all the confusion surrounding the club's future, following the postponement of their first two games has caused him to look elsewhere.

And, for the same reason, City appear to have lost the chance of signing young Oldham Athletic striker Lewis Alessandra.
