Yantorno had been expected to return to Uruguay this summer
Blue Square Premier side Chester City have completed the signing of Uruguayan midfielder Fabian Yantorno on a free transfer.
The 26-year-old played under City boss Mick Wadsworth at Gretna in Scotland and played seven games for Hibernian last season before being released.
"Fabian looked good in the short time he trained with us," Wadsworth told BBC Radio Merseyside.
"I feel fortunate I was able to speak to him. He is a fantastic talent."
Yantorno had been tracked by Glasgow giants Celtic and Rangers while playing for Gretna in the 2007/08 season, before injury dashed his hopes of joining either Old Firm side.
I think he will score goals as well as make goals with Chester and I know he will do well at this level of football
Chester boss Mick Wadsworth
"He had a marvellous first half to the season with Gretna in the Scottish Premier League while I was there and attracted interest from Rangers and Celtic who were both chasing his signature," Wadsworth explained.
"Unfortunately, Fabian picked up a bad knee injury around Christmas-time that season and was ruled out of action for the rest of the campaign."
Yantorno later ended up at Hibernian, who decided not to extend his deal this summer, and Wadsworth believes he will shine in the Blue Square Premier.
"I think he will score goals as well as make goals with Chester and I know he will do well at this level of football," he said.
Meanwhile, Chester have also completed the signing of former Doncaster Rovers and Darlington defender Tim Ryan. It is believed the 34-year-old has signed a two-year contract at the Deva.
