Cheltenham Town bring in Steve Book as coach

Cheltenham Town have brought back former goalkeeper Steve Book as a specialist coach on a part-time basis.

Book, who is now 40, was signed for £8,000 in 1997, and played more than 300 games for the club.

He told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "I have always looked for Cheltenham's results because I was happy here and it was a successful part of my career.

"Last season wasn't too clever but the team stayed up. I've done my badges and I'm here to help"

Book spent the past five seasons as a goalkeeping coach at Bristol Rovers while continuing to play part-time football.

Last season he made more than 50 appearances for Tiverton in the Zamaretto League.

"My ideas come from what I've learned from Jim Barron here when I was a player, from watching other goalkeepers and coaches work, and from what I believe in," he said.

"We'd be lucky to have Jim in once a week. Shane Higgs, Carl Muggleton and I would get on with it ourselves but it's getting more technical with DVD's and younger players need reassuring."
