Midfield switch suits Gallinagh

Cheltenham's Andy Gallinagh says he is happy with his revised role in the centre of the Robins' midfield.

Having played most of his career in defence, the 24-year-old has played in midfield since at the end of last term.

He told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "I asked the gaffer [Martin Allen] where he saw me playing and he did say midfield was an option."

"Midfield's where I want to be but if he needs me anywhere else, I'll play there for him as well."

Gallinagh, whose only senior goal so far was in a 3-3 draw at Brighton last October, added: "I'm more defensive than anything else but I know with a bit more practice I can score goals as well."

The graduate from the Robins Centre of Excellence started Saturday's draw at Hereford alongside Michael Pook but the former Swindon midfielder limped off with a ligament injury which requires a scan to determine the extent of the damage.

"Michael's a really nice lad off the pitch and over pre-season we've gelled so I'm looking forward to playing with him again over the season," he said.
