Montrose played seven games in his first loan spell with Cheltenham
Cheltenham Town have signed midfielder Lewis Montrose and defender Chris Westwood on one-month loan deals, but defender Darren Kenton has left.
Montrose, 19, returns from Wigan for a second spell at Whaddon Road, while Westwood, 31, has joined from Peterborough United.
"You have to act quickly," boss Martin Allen told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
"The deal for Westwood was done on Sunday but it was a bit of a shock when Darren told me he had something else."
Former Leicester and Leeds man Kenton arrived at Cheltenham as a free agent in October, signing a three-month contract which expired on 3 January.
Allen explained he was expecting Kenton to sign a long-term deal at Whaddon Road and is disappointed to have lost the 30-year-old.
"Darren accepted the contract offer that we made to him, he was set to sign for us," said Allen.
"But he had another offer over the weekend, we don't know where from, and Darren's chosen now to pursue other interests.
"That's life, we'll adapt and adjust, we certainly won't lose any sleep over it and in comes the next person to do their stuff," he added.
Allen also revealed he had intended to give defender Gavin Caines a free transfer, but admitted the situation could change after Kenton's departure.
Ben Gill has agreed to terminate his contract, but will not be released until after the FA Cup third round tie with Doncaster which has been rescheduled for Tuesday, 13 January.
