Chris Dickson hit 11 goals in 14 games on loan at Gillingham in autumn 2007
Gillingham chairman Paul Scally has not given up on signing striker Chris Dickson - despite his loan move last week from Charlton to Bristol Rovers.
"He will possibly be a Gills player at the end of his contract," said Scally. "Maybe in January, maybe not at all.
"In June it's out of their hands anyway so we'll worry about it then I guess."
Having pursued Dickson all summer, the Gills were stung when he was loaned out instead by their Kent neighbours to another League One side Bristol Rovers.
Gillingham have twice been on the verge of signing Dickson, who scored 11 goals in 14 games for them in a three-month loan in the autumn of 2007.
They tried to sign him in August before the transfer window closed and again when the loan market reopened, prior to his shock three-month move to Bristol Rovers.
But Charlton boss Phil Parkinson suggests that unpaid money over last season's loan move involving another Addicks player, Josh Wright, was the reason he ended up in the West Country, rather than back by the Medway.
"There are many reasons why Chris Dickson is not a Gillingham player," Parkinson told BBC Radio Kent. "And they are all down to Gillingham.
"Not only did Gillingham have the opportunity to take Chris on loan, under the same terms that Bristol Rovers did, but last season we allowed Josh Wright to join them on loan.
"He played a pivotal role in Gillingham winning promotion but they still owe us money on that deal.
The more I hear Phil Parkinson the more pleased I am I have Mark Stimson as manager and not Phil Parkinson

"Now they have the audacity to moan about us not letting Chris Dickson join them when they still owe us money on the Josh Wright deal."
Scally has said he wants no further negotiations with their more illustrious neighbours, after the way their failed pursuit of Dickson has developed into an ugly war of words. But he denies that the money issue over Wright is the reason behind the collapse of any move.
"At no time over the whole discussion with Chris Dickson did they ever mention we owe them money on Josh Wright," Scally told BBC Radio Kent.
"I wasn't aware of that and I'm going to have to check that but that hasn't got anything to do with the deal because nobody mentioned that in the first place.
"Maybe, if Charlton have anything to do with it he won't become a Gillingham player.
"I think Phil Parkinson is paranoid we would make him a better player.
