Bailey targets Charlton promotion

Charlton Athletic

New signing Nicky Bailey hopes to reach the Premier League with Charlton.

Hammersmith-born Bailey joined the Addicks from Southend United in a package that could be worth 750,000, signing a contract until June 2011.

The 24-year-old midfielder told BBC London 94.9: "I want to win things and I want to win really good things.

"I see Charlton as one of the best teams in this league. We're going to be pushing trying to win the league, and if not get into the play-offs."

Bailey added: "I was at Fulham when I was younger and I've always wanted to play at the highest level.

There's no easy games in this league. You know the next one's always going to be a hard one

"I'm just working my way up the leagues and just taking it as it comes, everything's a bonus to me. There's only the Premiership to come.

"If I can put in some really good performances for Charlton then hopefully we can be there by the end of the season."

Charlton face relegated Reading in their next Championship fixture on Saturday and Bailey is expecting a tough afternoon.

"There's no easy games in this league," he added. "You know the next one's always going to be a hard one.

"I can't wait for the next game now."
