Celtic manager Gordon Strachan wants Dutch striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink to stay in Glasgow.
The former PSV Eindhoven striker has scored in just one game this season and his contact ends in the summer.
The player was dropped for the Co-operative Insurance Cup final and will also miss out on Netherlands' World Cup qualifier against Scotland.
"Of course I want Jan here next year," said Strachan. "I want all my good players here."
The Dutch striker signed for Celtic from PSV Eindhoven in 2006 for £3.4m and Strachan is looking to exercise the option on his contract.
But the forward has been inconsistent in front of goal and was named as a substitute in Celtic's victory over Rangers in the Hampden final.
"It's not really my task. I indicate who I want to stay and that's it," said Strachan.
"I'm the guy who wants him, but if he wants 100 grand a week I'm not the guy who decides it in the end.
"But we like Jan here and want him as long as he enjoys it and can be part of things.
"The guys love him. We love him as coaches as well.
"We all go through difficult periods. It's just about getting a couple of goals - that's all that is missing."
