Carlisle United have signed Slovakia international defender Lubo Michalik after he agreed to cancel his contract with Leeds United by mutual consent.
Michalik, 27, who had been on loan at Brunton Park, scoring twice in 15 appearances, has signed an 18-month contract with the Cumbrians.
"It's a fantastic signing for the club," Carlisle boss Greg Abbott told the club website.
"He's a popular lad and had a big impact during his half-season loan."
Abbott added: "Lubo made it clear during his loan spell that he was enjoying his time here and would be interested in signing for us permanently.
"It's taken a lot of effort from the club but it's a deal that we believe will help push us on for the rest of the season."
Michalik's first English club were Bolton Wanderers, who signed him from Senec in January 2007.
He then joined Leeds, initially on loan, before being signed on a permanent basis by Gary McAllister in January 2008.
He has made 80 appearances in English league football, scoring four goals.
