Carlisle boss Abbott says squad players will get games

Abbott has assured his players they will get a chance to figure this season

Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott has told his squad that players will be handed first-team opportunities if they remain patient.

Abbott made no changes to his league side for Tuesday's Carling Cup defeat but insists the club's workload will give everyone with a chance.

"We're going to need everybody we've got," Abbott told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"I know the lads who aren't playing want to play and it gives me some options to shuffle it round."

The Blues face a long trip to Plymouth in League One on Saturday but Abbott says there will be no room for excuses from his players.

"I've told the lads not to make excuses about journey lengths," he said.

"Carlisle's always going to be where it is, Plymouth's always going to be where it is and we have to get on with it and deal with it.

"We've done it all in the past, so if we get beaten it's because they're better than us and nothing to do with any journey."
