Hurst delight at Cumbrians switch

Hurst could become Carlisle's record signing

New Carlisle midfielder Kevan Hurst said he has no regrets about dropping down a level to join the Cumbrians.

Hurst, 23, scored within 13 minutes of his Carlisle debut in Tuesday's 2-1 win at Stockport after signing a two-year deal from Scunthorpe United.

"I just needed the opportunity to play regular football," Hurst told BBC Radio Cumbria Sport.

"I'm just happy to be playing at the moment and I want to get out on the pitch and score some goals."

Hurst, whose transfer fee could amount to a club record £145,000 dependent on appearances for the Cumbrians, impressed at Edgeley Park on the right of midfield.

We are going as best we can with the help of the board to try and make these signings to make us better

Carlisle boss Greg Abbott

The former Iron winger turned provider for Joe Anyinsah's winner in the second-half after a Richard Keogh own goal had levelled it for the Hatters.

"I'm ambitious," Hurst said. "I want to work hard, I want to win games, score goals and create goals.

"We could be in or around the play-offs if we tighten-up in some areas."

Carlisle boss Greg Abbott was quick to praise Hurst's contribution to Tuesday night's win.

"He's got two good feet, his quality on the ball is tremendous and his goal was terrific," he said.

"His all-round game and energy is very good and he will make us a better team. He's got a good understanding of the game."

Abbott is still looking to add a striker to his squad after recently missing out on a deal to sign Galway United forward Jay O'Shea, who opted to sign for Birmingham City instead.

"If we can get the backing and some funds in, there are some good players on the radar.

"Players that are going to improve us will cost us money. We are going as best we can with the help of the board to try and make these signings to make us better."

The Cumbrians have handed a week's trial to Dutch striker Prince Rajcomar following a strong recommendation given to Abbott.

Rajcomar, 24, started his career with Fortuna Sittard and has also featured for Utrecht, Den Bosch, Breioablik and KR Rekjavik, as well as making four appearances for the Netherlands Under-21 side.

"He came with a good recommendation and it does us no harm to have a look at him.

"He's with us for a week so that we can see how he gets on, so it's the same as with all of the players that come in on trial.

"We can take a look and see whether we think he will be better than what we have already got."
