Joe Anyinsah pounced from close range to give Carlisle their first league win of the season at Stockport.
The Cumbrians led when debutant Kevan Hurst curled a superb shot into the top corner with the outside of his foot.
But it was short-lived as Stockport teenager James Vincent's cross was headed into his own net by Carlisle's Richard Keogh.
Graham Kavanagh almost put them back in front but Anyinsah made sure of the points by finishing off Hurst's cross.
