Murphy won full Republic of Ireland honours in 2007
Carlisle United defender Peter Murphy has signed a new two-year deal with the club to keep him at Brunton Park until the summer of 2011.
The Republic of Ireland international, 28, is in his ninth season at the club after joining from Blackburn in 2001.
Carlisle boss Greg Abbott said: "Peter is an excellent professional who has shown in recent weeks just how important he is to the side.
"I am delighted that he has decided to continue to do his bit with us."
Murphy entered into an exclusive group of players to have made over 300 appearances for the club last season.

He also scored the goal that saw Carlisle promoted back into the Football League in 2005 in the 1-0 Conference play-off final win against Stevenage Borough at Stoke's Britannia Stadium.
"He is widely acknowledged around the club as a really hard worker and that really comes through in the way he plays on a Saturday," Abbott said.
The Dublin-born defender, who also had a loan spell at Halifax while on the books at Ewood Park, won full Republic of Ireland honours in 2007, making his debut against Bolivia.
Murphy looked set to leave Carlisle in 2007, but eventually agreed a new deal with the club.
Carlisle managing director John Nixon said: "Peter has signed until June 2011 but we have an option to extend it by a further year during the final 12 months of that contract.
"That would take him into his testimonial year and that is how we hope it will be as he has been a fantastic servant to this club."
