Ledley injury concern for Cardiff

Joe Ledley has a 50/50 chance of being fit for Cardiff City's Championship clash with QPR on Saturday.

The Welsh midfielder limped out of Cardiff's 1-0 win at Reading on in the 87th minute with a calf injury.

But last season's top-scorer Ross McCormack has been dealt a setback in his recovery from a hamstring tear and will be out for a further four weeks.

While Kelvin Etuhu is undergoing investigative surgery to examine the full extent of his ankle injury.

The 21-year-old forward, on a season-long loan from Manchester City, is expected be out for up to eight weeks with ankle ligament damage after crashing into advertising boards in their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United.

Etuhu will have 'stress test' keyhole surgery on Friday to determine exactly how long he will be out.

McCormack, who scored 23 goals for Cardiff last term, was due to return from a hamstring tear next week but the Scottish international's injury has not healed and is set to be out until mid-October.

Cardiff, though, did receive a boost as Adam Matthews will not be out for as long as first thought.

Jones reveals injury woe

The promising teenage right-back was expected to be out for up to three weeks after suffering a suspected groin tear in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Reading.

The Welsh under-21 international was replaced by Paul Quinn in the first-half at the Madejski Stadium.

But 17-year-old Matthews hopes to be available for selection for their Championship clash with Derby County on 29 September.

Meanwhile, Ledley will undergo a late fitness test on the morning of the QPR match and is receiving intensive treatment on the injury as boss Dave Jones wants his influential midfielder to play.

Meanwhile, full-back Kevin McNaughton is set to be out for another three to four weeks with a ankle ligament damage.

Jones will now try to persuade chairman Peter Ridsdale for funds to reinforce his injury-hit squad in the recently-opened loan market.

"We're not short of midfielders but we're short up front, we know that," said Jones, whose side have climbed to fourth in the Championship table.

"I'm trying to get someone else in and I will force the chairman's hand a little bit."
