Midfielder Conal Platt could play a part for Cambridge United against Barrow this weekend according to assistant boss Paul Carden.
The 23-year-old has been out of action with a hip injury since mid-September.
Carden told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "He's been declared fit enough to train but we'll take it one day at a time with Conal.
"Providing there are no setbacks there's every chance he could be involved on Saturday."
He added: "We've missed his creativity at times, especially at home when teams come to defend."
Platt's absence has coincided with a torrid run of form for the U's in the Blue Square Bet Premier.
Martin Ling's men have picked up just five points in the seven games since the former Forest Green man was sidelined, but showed encouraging signs in Sunday's 2-2 draw at Fleetwood.
The message this week is to keep concentrating, keep working and focusing on what we've got to do

Striker Danny Wright, who has had a mixed debut season at the Abbey after arriving from Histon, was a particular highlight in the battling performance.
"Obviously he has a certain tag after coming from the local rivals," said Carden.
"I don't think you can ever question the type of player he is. He's a hard working centre forward who on his day can cause problems to any defence in this league."
While Carden knows one decent display does not fix an entire season, he is optimistic they can continue to progress against Barrow.
"That's the standard set again. It's important we hit that and better it as the season goes on," he added.
"The message this week is to keep concentrating, keep working and focusing on what we've got to do."
