Courtney Pitt has scored 11 League goals in his U's career to date
Cambridge United player-assistant manager Paul Carden has said Courtney Pitt will be handed a more attacking role next season.
Pitt was released by former U's boss Jimmy Quinn back in May, but signed a new two-year deal on Tuesday.
Carden has also confirmed the club have agreed a fee for an unnamed striker, believed to be Chester's Chris Holroyd. "We've made an offer for a forward which has been accepted so we're just waiting on the lad now."
Chester have granted permission for the U's to talk to Holroyd and expect a decision by the weekend.
As for Pitt, Carden told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire that he will be used on the left wing rather than at left-back.
"He will be giving us more of the things that we're asking, which is assists and goals."
Pitt spent most of last season playing left wing-back in a 3-5-2 formation but new boss Gary Brabin looks set to revert to a traditional 4-4-2.
Anthony Tonkin has been signed to fill the left-back berth and Carden believes Pitt can develop a good partnership with the former Forest Green man.
"Courtney and Tonkin down the left side really excites the manager and myself," Carden said.
"We just want to be exciting, we want to be a fast side, we want to be very dynamic."
In the past, Pitt has been criticised for his inconsistency, but Carden is confident the former Portsmouth and Chelsea man will benefit from regularly playing on the left wing.
"Obviously everyone has their flaws, that's why we're at this level.
"If we can get more further up the pitch, more crosses and even him chipping in with a few goals, that's what we're looking to do."
