Burton Albion manager Paul Peschisolido has given up hope of top scorer Shaun Harrad signing a new contract.
The Brewers were desperate to keep the forward and Albion have rejected offers from Northampton Town and Crawley Town.
But, after Harrad rejected a new deal, Peschisolido told BBC Radio Derby that the 26-year-old, who has hit 13 goals this season, may leave in January.
Peschisolido said: "He's not going to sign a contract. We have to decide if he stays until the end of the season."
But Peschisolido has no fears that Harrad's attitude will be affected if he chooses to let his contract run out.
"He's a good lad and works extremely hard and will continue to be professional," Peschisolido said.
"But there is interest from a couple of clubs and we'll see what happens."
