The Football League's oldest player Kevin Poole is set to play for Burton Albion against Rotherham United in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Wednesday.

The club's 47-year-old goalkeeping coach has been asked to step in for first-choice keeper Adam Legzdins who has dislocated a finger.

Poole made six appearances for the Brewers in League Two last season but this will be his first game this term.

He told BBC Radio Derby: "I'll jump into the game and go and enjoy it."

Poole, nicknamed Grandad by his team-mates, agreed at the end of last season to carry on playing for the Brewers for one more campaign.

The Bromsgrove-born keeper came through the youth ranks at Aston Villa, turning professional in 1981 and has played for nine clubs during a 29-year career.
