McFarland calls for unbeaten run

Burton Albion boss Roy McFarland wants his side to secure promotion to League Two in style after seeing them move 19 points clear at the top of the table.

The Brewers brushed aside Rushden & Diamonds 3-0 on Monday and McFarland says the side is in good shape but must also guard against complacency.

McFarland told BBC Radio Derby: "I've said 'Let's try to be undefeated for the rest of the season'.

"We're feeling confident and happy but we don't want to let anything go."

Second-placed Histon would only be seven points behind the Brewers if they win their four games in hand but McFarland - who has been named manager until the end of the season - believes his side can still improve.

"I feel if we start to keep that ball a little bit more up front and bring other players in to play we can be a greater threat," he said.

"I'm disappointed we didn't get more goals. We created lots of chances - even before we scored the first goal just on half-time we probably should have scored two goals.

"We could have been quite comfortable by half-time. But I thought the important thing was to get the players focused again when we came out second half we showed what we were about.

"We were very quick and sharp and made it count because we scored very early.

"We competed for every ball, we haven't used it as well as we should have done and had we used it better we would have won by a greater margin.

"But we still created chances and it was a good solid performance. The conditions were tricky but we adapted very, very well."

Burton are next in action on Thursday when they travel to Kent to take on Ebbsfleet United.
