Burnley chief executive Paul Fletcher hopes midfielder Chris McCann will sign a new contract at Turf Moor.
The 23-year-old, who made his debut for the club in 2005, is out of contract this summer and has been offered a new deal with the Championship club.
Fletcher told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I'm hoping Chris will be with us but I'll only be confident when I see his name on the contract.
"It's only right that he does the best for himself but I hope he'll stay."
McCann has made 175 appearances for Burnley, scoring 21 goals.
He featured in Burnley's final four games of last season after recovering from a knee injury first suffered against Sunderland in September 2009.
"He's had a really long spell with injury and he's had some difficulties and the club has stood by him," Fletcher said.
"We've got him playing again and when he came back he just fitted straight back into the side."
