Blackpool midfielder David Vaughan has confirmed he will end his three-year stay at Bloomfield Road in a bid to remain in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old has turned down the club's latest contract offer.

Vaughan told the club website: "It was a very good offer and a tough decision. I want to stay in the Premier League and test myself at the highest level.

"My three years at Blackpool have been great and I'd really like to thank the fans and the staff."

The Wales international, who began his career at Crewe Alexandra, joined Blackpool from Real Sociedad in August 2008.

He went on to make 116 appearances, which included helping the club to win promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 2010.

And despite the disappointment of relegation on the final day of last season, Vaughan says he will always remember his time with the Seasiders.

"It was unfortunate that we couldn't quite stay up last season and that was a big disappointment," said the Rhuddlan-born player, who picked up four prizes at the club's end-of-season awards night.

"The last couple of years have been brilliant and I leave with nothing but good memories.

"If it wasn't for Blackpool, I may never have played in the Premier League, so I have a lot to thank the club and the manager [Ian Holloway] for. He has changed things around and I'll always look back on my time with fond memories.

"It's a tough decision to move because my family are settled in the area, but hopefully things will work out well wherever we end up."
